A little while back, an amazing lady called Christine Kane was brought to my attention. Among other things, she promotes a self discovery tool called Word of the Year. It’s, like, the anti New Year’s Resolutions. Instead of making yourself a bunch of promises that make you feel like a miserable failure and setting goals about your life and your career and your diet that you’re going to break before January 15, (for the love of God. Just eat the cake. No-one ever goes to the grave thinking, gee, I wish I hadn’t had that last slice of chocolate cake. Unless, like, you choked to death on it. In which case… I digress) you choose a word that best represents what you want out of yourself and your life for the coming year.
She says that some people may have a problem choosing just one word, that others may be paralysed by the prospect of boiling an entire 365 days down to Just. One. Word. I fully expected this to be me, because I have a tendency to embrace all the things and, while not a procrastinator by any standards, I do love to set me some riduculously unattainable goals.
But I surprised myself. I perused her site, dutifully began to fill in her Word of the Year workbook and, by page 2, I knew what my word was going to be. It was going to represent not only my inner frame of mind, but the way I approached the world, life’s problems, and the endless challenges presented by running your own business.
I was going to SPARKLE. That was going to be my word. Beauty comes from within, right? So if the inner me was SPARKLING, then surely that couldn’t help but follow through to all aspects of my life. No, I hadn’t been drinking. I was simply high on motivation, the prospect of a blank slate for 2018, and all that Laws of Attraction stuff that I’ve been trying to embrace. Emphasis on trying.
So with that goal in mind, it’s only right that I should bring that sparkle, and dust it all the heck over my fiber art. Over the next couple weeks, my 2018 themed batts and yarns will hit my Etsy store, blended by hand in the aforementioned fiber studio from mohair, alpaca, recycled sari silk, tussah silk, angelina and firestar. I’m excited, and I hope y’all will love them.
